NHT's flagship, reference-grade home theater loudspeaker - the VT-3 is a powered tower that employs a pair of side-loaded, lower chamber subwoofers and an upper chamber, 4-driver array for low distortion, flat frequency response, tightly controlled bass, and precise imaging in the best tradition of NHT's musical speakers. At the switch of a control, however, 2 rear-firing drivers kick in to create a subtle image blur for a more diffuse soundfield, subwoofer output is boosted, and a 35 Hz high-pass filter allows the system to play at higher volume with less distortion. The result is expansive, theater-like sound with visceral, "kick-in-the-seat-of-the-pants" bass that contributes to an exciting, involving movie experience. Each VT-3 employs 2 highly damped 10" subwoofers derived from the mighty 12" subwoofer found in the Music Series flagship model 3.3. Each pair is driven by a dedicated 500-watt monaural amplifier that uses patented Sunfire tracking down-converter technology for ultrahigh efficiency and extremely high power. Speaker control is through an outboard unit that communicates with the speakers via a shielded, 8-pin mini D.I.N. cable. The VT-3 Controller itself fits neatly in a component rack. Audio/Video Mode, Video Bass Contour, Low Bass EQ, and Ambient Driver Bypass can all be accessed from the controller's front panel or the included infrared remote.
